Chaplain Michael Monroig

Chaplain Michael Monroig currently serves as Associate Director at Adventist Chaplaincy
Ministries for Armed Forces, Law Enforcement, Corrections and Community, the ecclesiastical
endorsing agency for the North American Division of the Seventh-day Adventists.
Chaplain Monroig grew up in Caguas, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the Navy in
September 1990. His enlisted assignments include USS ST. Louis (LKA 116)
and USS Beaufort (ATS-002). Upon completion of his active-duty time, he
joined the U.S. Navy Reserve. Chaplain Monroig moved to Altamonte Springs,
FL and studied bushiness, during this time he joined the Seventh-day
Adventist Church. After joining the church, he felt the calling to ministry and
changed majors from business to theology.
He earned his Master of Divinity from Andrews University and his bachelor’s
degree from Southern Adventist University. While at Andrews University he
joined the United States Navy Chaplain Corps in the chaplain candidate
Program. He pastored in Florida and was ordained by the Florida Conference.
While pastoring he also served as a naval reserve chaplain, serving with
MERFEL 106 and Commander Region Southeast. In 2008 he was recalled to
active duty as a Navy Chaplain with tours as command chaplain: Naval Air
Station Oceana (Virginia Beach, VA), USS Oak Hill (LSD-51) (Virginia Beach,
VA), Combat Logistics Battalion 22, deploying with the 22 Marine
Expeditionary Unit (22 MEU) and acting regimental Combat Logistics
Regiment 27 (Jacksonville, NC), Naval Beach Group 2 (Virginia Beach, VA),
Deputy Director Chaplains Religious Enrichment Development Operation
(CREDO) Mid-Atlantic (Norfolk, VA), Navy Support Facility Diego Garcia
(British Indian Ocean Territory), and Deputy Command Chaplain at Joint
Expeditionary Base Little Creek/Fort Story Chapel (Virginia Beach. VA).
Chaplain Monroig retired on February 1, 2024, with the rank of Lieutenant
Commander after 34 years of total Naval Service.
Chaplain Monroig also supported local churches within the Potomac
Conference and was a member of the Potomac Conference Executive and
Personnel Committees.
Chaplain Monroig is married to Lily Monroig, a Neonatal ICU Nurse, and have
three children: Elisa, an Emergency Department Nurse; Ashley a Psychology
student; and Christopher a junior in High School.
Chaps’ favorite scriptural passage is “that I may know Him and the power of His
resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; 11in order that I
may attain to the resurrection from the dead.” Philippians 3:10-11
